A Day in Pride & Prejudice: Visiting Pemberley! (aka Chatsworth House)
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video!
Once I had decided to make the Pemberley dress, I knew it would be an absolute dream to wear it at Chatsworth, the location used in the Pride & Prejudice (2005) film as Pemberley. I've been a fan of Austen ever since I could read in English (in fact, Pride and Prejudice was one of the first few books I read in English!), and the 2005 adaptation is my favourite (controversial I know!) so this felt so full circle for me, and I wanted to share it with you!
Apologies for the shakiness of some of the clips, I'm still working on not being awkward filming in public so I will do better in the future! If you'd like to see more Elizabeth Bennet content, I've made two of the dresses from the film:
The Brown dress part I ua-cam.com/video/Mq-sI9qq3Jk/v-deo.html
The Brown dress part II ua-cam.com/video/6cmB3z-JlGE/v-deo.html
The Pemberley dress ua-cam.com/video/qflX07K6pi0/v-deo.html
Lastly, a tremendous thank you to the bestest of friends, Emily and Jess, for this wonderful weekend and their endless patience in filming!

Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! Instead of letting these projects languish in videos files and my wardrobe, I thought I would finally take the time to share them with you through what I'm calling the Archive initiative! (lol) I find it hard to motivate myself to care about projects once they're completed and they enter my normal wardrobe, and I move on to the next project, which mean...
The *easiest* adjustable skirt (18th century style ✨)
Переглядів 9 тис.Місяць тому
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! After the cliff hanger in the previous video, here is the conclusion to this project. I set out to make two historically inspired skirts, where they main goals were to use fabrics from my stash, and make adjustable skirts that had historical silhouettes that I could comfortably wear for every day life. My body fluctuates a lot, even within the same day...
Can Historical Skirts be Adjustable? Attempt 1: 1900s

Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! Following on from the ethos behind my 1890s cape coat (you can find that video here: ua-cam.com/video/BFrLsHzM4_8/v-deo.html and the ethos is that we can still be cute historybounding potatoes), I wanted to make some adjustable historically inspired skirts. My most used or favoured silhouette is typically the 1890s/1900s skirts, because they mesh well ...
The Victorian Morning Corset: Testing a 19th-Century Corset Pattern
Переглядів 11 тис.3 місяці тому
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! Ever since I saw the illustration for this pattern a few months ago, it's stayed in my head, so I was so happy to finally give it a go! This corset dates to 1893, from an issue of La Mode Illustree, a popular Victorian magazine. I got it from Repeated Originals on Etsy (www.etsy.com/uk/listing/246200088/morning-corset-victorian-reproduction). I made it...
Comfortable 1890s: A Coat for Lazy Days (but you still wanna look cute!)
Переглядів 8 тис.4 місяці тому
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! This project was prompted by a peak potato day. I had some materials in my stash, I found a pattern, I had a couple of days off over the holidays and a dream: a coat that could convert from being loose for potato days, to fitted for more effort days, to historybounding and historical clothing. And so I give you... the 1890s cape coat thing! I used a pa...

Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! In a conscious effort to fight my forgetful brain, I've yet again sat down and done a round up of all my crafty projects from this year. They range from historical costume sewing, particularly Edwardian and Victorian things, to forays into knitting and crochet that I've found really rewarding this year. I ended up making 23 projects (including some sma...

Making Victorian Underwear Essentials: *All the Lace* Corset Covers & Petticoat

Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! I was feeling a little overwhelmed with all my options for projects, and so I asked my friends over on Patreon and making some new Victorian underwear won the poll! I'm so grateful to have been steered towards this project because it was a real joy to work on it. The goal was to make frilly, lace-y items that would be passable for historical undercloth...
The Swiss Waist: the Easy Way to a Victorian Silhouette (without a corset!)
Переглядів 22 тис.8 місяців тому
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! After a little bit of a disappointment with my 1860s skirt, I widened the skirt band to fix it, and though it made it better, it still wasn't ideal. So I decided to explore period appropriate solutions: belts! In this case, a Swiss waist, or belt, or however you'd like to name it. It seems definitions were inconsistent across magazines and outfit descr...
I tried dyeing fabric with ✨elderberries✨ | Will It Dye? Ep.4

Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! It's been a little while since I've done one of these, but I'm still so interested in natural dyeing that when I spotted these berries at the back of the garden, I had to give it a go. In this episode, I go through the basic steps of natural dyeing and how I've tweaked them slightly to this project since I didn't have a berry specific recipe. In this c...
A Little Women Dress: Crafting a Romantic 1860s Cottagecore Outfit
Переглядів 13 тис.10 місяців тому
Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! When I saw this fabric in a random store in Edinburgh, it immediately formed into a romantic, sloped shoulders, full circle dress in my mind. Upon further reflection, I decided to make it into separates for further versatility in my wardrobe, and though much of the 19th century is into the sloped shoulders romantic look, once it was a shirtwaist and a ...

Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! Here is a quick, straightforward, and beginner friendly sewing project for your historical or cottagecore inspired wardrobe. For this, I purchased three meters of this thicker and hardier linen a...

Making an Outlander 18th Century Inspired Costume (but not travelling back in time)
I love seeing Chatsworth through fresh eyes, its only 30 mins away from me and we went regularly as kids so I never go as an adult as its boring to me... so I forget that it is actually quite impressive
I saw someone who added hook and eye closures at the top and bottom of the back to keep it more stable, it added more support to the back of the morning corset.
❤
What a scenery !what a beautiful lady ,I wish I could have a chance to see this fabulous scenery❤
Please help, I’m so curious about your accent! I hear RP English, some Irish, and some West Country or welsh?
Flip a coin
Knowing I will never get to make this visit, thank you for a truly beautiful.
Just fabulous. My mum grew up near here
I love it so much! I'd love to make it in linen!!
Hiw lucky you were with the weather. When I went you could hardly see your hand in front of your face! Typical Derbyshire/North Midlands weather!
Amazing ✨ You had the chance to live one of my teenage fantasies! Thanks for sharing! P.S. Visiting here is still on my bucket list 😉 no matter my age
Made me homesick for England.
very cool! I didn't even notice any shakiness or anything -so don't worry about that :)
Hi, Thank you. That was a delightful video about a very sweet dress. I hope you live in a part of the world where you can get a lot of use of it. I have to ponder on if I should visit Mood's pattern library. Yours, Ann
Thank you for including a taste of the library. Oh, those books!
Did you notice there was fabric draped over the books ? Wonder if that was to keep dust and or bugs out ?
Pemberley! So exciting! How lovely!
Thank you so much ! What a magical place !
My mother’s school were housed in Chatsworth for the last few years of her school life, during world war 2. She would have loved to have seen this - it would have brought back many memories.
thank you, cat! this was lovely! i hope to get to visit someday.
This was so fun to watch! Thanks for taking us along.
So fun! I only wish you'd included the Darcy bust in the shop - the sign saying "please do not kiss the statue" is one of my favourite bits 😂
Do they stop you if you try to kiss the statue? lololol Because I totally would be on that statue.
The architectural design and structure, paintings... exquisite 👌🏾
Mine is Anne of green gables ❤ Jane Eyre ❤ Jane Austin ❤ wuthering heights, sommersby ❤ basically the classics 😂
Interesting 🤔, I love the book 📖
❤❤❤❤
What kind of skirt is that momma needs one !?
Su Excelencia Lady Mery... Sublime ❤
It's gorgeous!
Absolutely lovely! I think your fabric choice is perfect - and the price was definitely a plus! The Mood Patterns are definitely great, and generally better than most. They also have some great fabric, and their recommendations for notions are generally spot on.
Thanks for sharing this, @CatsCostumery ⭐️ The dress is lovely!
Finally catching up on your videos! I had an autoimmune flare up with my skin condition and couldn’t sew for about 9 months (I don’t own a sewing machine). So sewing content made me too sad to consume. I’m back to sewing though!!!! Busting out some projects and catching up with my UA-cam friends again. I love the way this turned out. It’s beautiful
Lovely floral print & so cute on you!
Such a pretty dress, it looks lovely on you ❤
I love the mood fabrics patterns but I'm always scared of busts like this not being flattering on me. You've given me hope though! Just wondering if you could slide a couple of soft bones in the waist section to stop them collapsing?
Yes, I think that would definitely help!!
It looks like to me that if you were to make the bottom of the breast part go down more, instead of shortening the bottom of the waist part, that might help. Otherwise, this dress is mega cute. I love the fabric! And using bias tape as a hem is a cool idea!
I agree. I think the fit issue was the bust being a bit small and pushing the dress down. I've had the same issue with another Mood pattern, so I was on the lookout for it here!
Dear Cat. Ever since I was in high school, I have been wanting to learn how to sew to make my own clothes. I love, love dresses from Victorian times along with earlier ones as well. I've never met anyone near me here in the U.S. who has the same fascination of style dresses till I came across your channel which I have subscribed. I love this Mood's pattern and wish I was more advanced in my sewing than I am (I'm only a beginner), so I can make this dress. At 58 years old I am putting myself back to school to be able to support myself...I will be done with school in two weeks! I will have time to go back and do the hobbies I love so much like spinning raw fiber, knitting and would like to improve my sewing. Are there any (free) patterns out there that you know off where I can dive into? I mean, I basically only know how to sew straight lines - LOL! Any tips you have for me would be much appreciated. Lovingly, Lily 😊 P.S. dropping my email in hopes you can answer me via email. lilicp803@gmail.com
Thank you for sharing this from your archive, Cat. I was just thinking about whether to post from my archive or not. I agree- Bring back the Milkmaid dresses!
That is a super cute dress. Now I have to go hunt for this pattern ❤
The dress came out so cute! I didn’t realise Mood had some great patterns. I should look at them more!
Such a lovely dress - and I'm always blown away by your excellent choice of fabric colours and patterns - this one with the flowers and blue is absolutely delightful 😊
This is such a cute dress!! Does anyone have the timestamp for the finished hem? I was really excited to see that part with the bias tape finish but couldn't quite catch a timestamp with it visible.
Ah, I'm sorry, it's so hard to get a full length shot in my sewing room! I'll try and post a close up on Instagram :)
What a great fabric choice, and the final version looks fantastic on you! If you're considering suggestions, one way to gild this lily a bit is to add strap keepers to the armhole straps. That way, bra straps won't peek out. It depends on how you feel about bra straps, of course.
If you put fusible interfacing on the waist piece, it would help with the rippling
I watched this yesterday, printed the pattern last night and am now cutting the fabric out 😂 ive been meaning to make this since mood released it in 2022 and somehow, have been putting it off for whatever reason... thanks for giving me the push to finally do it ❤ also ive been a fan for maybe 3 years, i love all your work!
I'm so glad to hear it!! If you post about it somewhere, pls tag me, I'd love to see it :)
A lovely dress. Well done & enjoy! - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
That looks lovely on you, I have been looking for a milkmaid dress pattern for ages so thank you xx
So lovely!!! I love that fabric's floral pattern. ❤
I often start projects when i have the whim not the season. I feel this in my soul
Super cute
I plan to go the whole hog and just do a regency frock. When I finish my other 500 WIPs. I wish I could use a sewing machine 😂😂😂
